Immunofixation in serum
Material: | 2 ml serum |
Methods: | Elektrophorese → Elektrophorese Immunfixation | Reference range | as per findings report |
Indication | Demonstration of monoclonal immunoglobulins of the classes IgG, IgA, IgM and IgD as well as the accompanying kappa- and lambda light chains on suspicion of monoclonal gammopathy (heavy chain disease and light chain disease). |
Please note | The incidence of para protein demonstration increases with age. Malignant gammopathies occur in plasmocytomas (multiple myeloma, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia) as well as in CLL and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In rare cases, it may be lymphomas with isolated occurrence of heavy chains (heavy chain disease) or light chains (Bence-Jones plasmocytoma). Monoclonal gammopathies of indefinite significance (MGUS) occur in chronic liver diseases, infections, autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, thyroiditis, pernicious anemia or Sjögren-syndrome, amongst others. These MGUS often are only transient or remain stable for decades without progression. Please also refer to section “Monoclonal gammopathy” (Indications directory) |
