Inhibitor detection in CSF, urine and sputum
Material: | 10 ml urine |
Indication | Demonstration of antimicrobial inhibitors against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria |
Please note | Test: Demonstration of inhibitors is by agar diffusion test with test papers dipped into the sample material for bacteriological testing. The test shows, whether the material contains chemotherapeutics or other substances inhibiting indicator strains (analgesics, antirheumatics and others). Determination: In most drugs, the concentration in urine is usually higher than the one in serum or tissue, which leads to evaluation restrictions of the bacteriological results of urine, especially, if there is no growth but strong positive inhibitor demonstration. Determination is obvious, if germs growing nonetheless are resistant against the patient’s medication. Often it is not considered, that chemotherapy, independent of indication (i.e. tuberculostatics), may influence the result of a bacterial test. |
