Gardnerella vaginalis
Material: | Pathogen demonstration: Vaginal swab, cervical swab (in pregnant women) in transport medium, IUP, puncture specimen of the Douglas pouch, amniotic fluid |
Methods: |
Kulturelle Untersuchungen → CO2 Atmosphäre Mikroskopie → Hellfeldmikroskopie |
Indication | Bacterial vaginosis, clarification of premature rupture of the membranes during pregnancy |
Please note | Gardnerella vaginalis is detected in large numbers in case of bacterial vaginosis, but is also detectable in asymptomatic women. Its causal involvement in bacterial vaginosis is therefore discussed controversially. In general, bacterial vaginosis is a polymicrobial infection with various pathogens (imbalance of the vaginal flora). In the pregnancy, bacterial vaginosis leads to an increased risk of miscarriage or premature rupturing of membranes. |
