Gamma-GT
(GGT, gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidase or -transferase)
Material: | 1 ml serum (Stability in serum at 4°C – 8°C: 7 days) |
Methods: | Spektrometrie → UV- / VIS-Photometrie | Reference range | Men: < 60 U/l Female: < 40 U/l Children: Please refer to findings report |
Indication | Hepatobiliary diseases |
Please note | Most sensitive parameter for the detection of hepatobiliary diseases. The evaluation is more sensitive than the one of GOT and GPT. In case of jaundice the alkaline phosphatase (AP) as an additional cholestasis parameter should be tested besides bilirubin. In case of chronic hepatopathy, an increased gamma-GT value with high probability indicates toxic (alcohol- and/or medication-induced) genesis when having ruled out cholestasis and liver diseases. In alcoholics without underlying liver disease, the gamma-GT value normalizes after a 2 – 5 week abstinence period. Medication treatment with phenytoin or phenobarbital may be responsible for increased gamma-GT values due to the enzyme induction. |
