Serum Amyloid A
(SAA)
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Spektrometrie → Nephelometrie | Reference range | < 10 mg/l |
Indication | Recognition of transplant rejection after organ transplant (Heart, kidney, pancreas etc.), cute infections, progress checks after severe COVID-19-courses. |
Please note | Serum-amyloid A (SAA) is an acute phase protein of the immune response, which is formed in the liver. It increases in case of bacterial and viral infections, usually to 10 – 100 mg/l, in exceptional ceases also up to 1600 mg/l. According to recent studies, SAA can be used for the prognosis of progression of severe SARS-CoV-2 infections (Zinellu A et al. 2021). Within the context of transplant rejection, generally SAA-levels of over 100 mg/l are seen. Chronically increased SAA-levels (for instance in rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis or leprosy) can lead to secondary amyloidosis with the formation of AA-amyloid fibrils. |
