Fractioned calcium excretion in the urine

| Please note | Familial hypercalcemic hypocalciuria (FHH) as well as vitamin-D deficiency should urgently be excluded, especially on suspicion of asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism. When testing for calcium in the 24-hour urine, FHH may cause hypocalciuria as well as in some cases- such as pHPT-normocalciuria, the fractioned calcium excretion from spontaneous urine and serum/plasma should be sought for differentiation between the two clinical pictures.
Fractional calcium excretion = Calcium concentration in serum x creatinine concentration in urine
