Echovirus infection
(Enteric cytopathogenic human orphan virus)
Material: | Antibody demonstration: 1 ml serum PCR: 5 ml EDTA-blood, 1 ml serum, 1 ml CSF, 1 ml bronchial secretion, 1 ml bronchial lavage, 1 ml tracheal secretion, 1 ml nasopharyngeal aspirate, 1 ml sputum |
Methods: |
Amplifikationsverfahren → PCR und Gelelektrophorese Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) | Reference range | IgG: < 11 – 15 U/ml |
Indication | Suspicion of infection (see below) |
Please note | Incubation time 6 – 14 days. Slight, flu-like symptoms with cold, pharyngitis, lymphadenitis and myalgia are predominant, besides that, there are infections of the CNS with aseptic meningitis but also infections of the respiratory tract and the myocardium and pericardium. Serology is not very meaningful and summarily recognizes all ECHO-, coxsackie- and other enteroviruses (serologically, differentiation is not possible). Method of choice is therefore enterovirus-PCR, as differentiation, if required, is possible here. |
