| Indication | Suspicion of infection with fish tapeworm in case of non-specific abdominal problems and matching anamnesis, possibly in combination with vitamin B12-deficiency (pernicious anemia) |
| Please note | Incidence worldwide, especially in fresh water lakes, Lake Constance, Eastern Baltic, Russia, South Alpine lakes etc. Oral infection through insufficiently cooked or smoked fish/caviar. Often symptomless for a long time, possibly pernicious anemia, as vitamin B12 is withdrawn. Microscopic demonstration of worm eggs, possibly proglottids. Due to intermittent passing of worms/worm eggs, testing of several stool samples is recommended. |
