Diazepam
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Flüssigkeitschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (LC-MS/MS) → LC-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie |
Indication | Therapeutic drug monitoring |
Therapeutic range | 100 – 2500 µg/l >3000 µg/l alert level
for the total of doxepine and nordoxepine |
Please note | The metabolite nordiazepam is tested concurrently. Diazepam is a benzodiazepine derivate and binds to the GABAA-receptor, which leads to an increased flow of chloride ions and consequently an increased inhibiting effect of GABA-containing neurons. Due to this is has anxiolytic, sedative, muscle relaxing and anticonvulsant effects. As per all benzodiazepines, it has a high dependency potential (Caution: Withdrawal delirium!). Frequent side effects due to the effect mechanism are sleepiness, confusion, anterograde amnesia, breathing depression etc. |
