C-peptide in the serum
Material: | 1 ml serum (Stability in serum at 4°C - 8°C: 1 day, it is therefore shorter than the stability of insulin) If shipping is by mail, the sample needs to be frozen. |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz-Immunoassay (CLIA) | Reference range | 0,8 µg/l – 4,2 µg/l |
Indication | For clarification of hypoglycemia |
Please note | In the pancreas, proinsulin is split into insulin and C-peptide in equal parts during secretion; it is therefore a marker of endogenous hormone production. Blood glucose, optionally insulin, should always be determined at the same time as C-peptide. The stated reference range of C-peptide always refers to a fasting blood sugar level between 70 mg/dl – 115 mg/dl. In case of renal insufficiency, C-peptide concentration is also increased due to the limited renal elimination and therefore only partially evaluable. |
