| Indication | Suspicion of hereditary alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency in case of icterus prolongatus in newborns, lung emphysema in adults and hepatitis of unknown origin in babies and small children as well as adults. It is recommended to do phenotyping or genotyping if there is decreased alpha-1 antitrypsin concentration. |
| Please note | Alpha-1 antitrypsin is an acute phase protein. In case of inflammations, false normal values may also be measured despite a deficiency. |
